Obituary For Alfred Deane Lyon
Alfred “Deane” Lyon passed away peacefully at home in Fremont, CA on July 25, 2017 at the age of 89 with his loving wife, Thelma, by his side. Deane was born in Klamath Falls, OR on September 22, 1927 to Margaret and Claude Lyon. They moved to the Niles area of Fremont when he was in high school and he spent the next 76 years there - marrying, raising a family and building a career.
Deane served in the military twice – first enlisting in the Merchant Marines division of the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 16 and later serving in the U.S. Army, where he played a key role in maintaining the Army’s world-wide communications from Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Deane was both a World War II and Korean War veteran. He spent 41 years with PG&E working his way up from Substation Operator at the Newark Substation in Fremont to Chief System Dispatcher in the San Francisco headquarters at the time of his retirement. He had a long and productive retirement extending over 30 years, where he found joy in helping others. He also had plenty of time to enjoy the many things he loved – spending time with family and friends, taking care of his granddaughter, watching any and all sports, fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, playing his regular poker game, doing a little damage at the casinos and caring for his granddogs and his own dog, Oscar.
Deane is survived by his wife, Thelma Biale-Lyon, also of Fremont; son Alfred “Deane” Lyon Jr. (Bernadette) of El Dorado Hills, CA; daughter Corinne Lyon of Reno, NV; granddaughter, Alexis Lyon-Claus (Justin) of Reno-Stead, NV; twin sister Nadeane Naquin (Dave) of Sacramento, CA; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and a host of long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Margaret Lyon and his sister Dorothy Pierce.
A service celebrating Deane’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11am at the Fremont Memorial Chapel located at 3723 Peralta Blvd, Fremont CA with a Celebration of Life immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), The Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice.
