Obituary For Alice C. Martinez

Alice Casillas Martinez, aka Elisa Casillas Ramirez of Union City, California, passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2022, at the age of 95. Loving sister to 18 siblings. Loved mother of Harry Harrig, Alice Krull, Steven Martinez, and Julie Urquidez. Adored grandmother to Lisa Harrig, Eileen Solario, Daniel Harrig, Lanette Gonzalez, Kelly Orellana, Dolores Alvarez, Arlene Munoz, Richard Martinez, Shane Urquidez, Chad Urquidez, and Dylan Urquidez. Cherished great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to twenty-eight. Born on March 10, 1927 in Valle de Guadalupe, Jalisco, Mexico to Jose Elias and Paula Ramirez. Known to many as “Alley Cat”. Alice lived in San Diego for over 30 years and retired to Union City to travel and experience the next part of life near more family. Alice enjoyed spending time with her sisters and brothers, including many cruise trips – Alaska being her favorite. She also enjoyed Sunday morning football in her recliner, alongside her sister, Juana or son, Stevie. Alice was a lifelong humanitarian who devoted weekly trips to Tijuana providing clothing, food, and basic necessities to those in need, including many orphaned children. Upon retirement from her career as a nurse, Alice continued to support and care for those in need. As she was called on by friends and friends of friends to provide in-home care for elderly in their final years. She accepted those requests with grace and offered dignity and the sincerest care to those she tended. Alice was loved and enjoyed by many friends. In earlier years, Alice enjoyed bowling, darts, and bunco. Smiling, laughing, joking and enjoying those functions were some of her best times. Alice was filled with joy and pride at the times she spent with her children and grandchildren. Countless trips to the beach, zoo, parks, SeaWorld, Disneyland, or just spending time watching Golden Girls or Wheel of Fortune…letting a grandkid squish next to her on her recliner. She was the most loving and active grandmother with a beautiful energy that will live on. Her legacy is as powerful and beautiful as her and her love. She will be missed dearly but always loved and appreciated. Join the family in remembering Alice: Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 5pm to release lanterns at sunset in Half Moon Bay. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 26th at 10-11am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 C St, Union City. Burial to follow at 12:00pm at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward where her ashes will be laid to rest with her mom and dad.

Grandma Alice, You have been part of my life since I was a little kid. As I grew up I loved watching Untold Stories in the Er with you since I was 13. We sat on the couch and binge watched show after show without stopping. You loved my guniea pig Bubbles after I got her. Especially when you open the fridge you got lettuce out for her so you can feed her. You will be truly missed. Love you lots Shannon Debrodie

Grandma Alice... you played a decent role in my life. From the random dances Shannon and I would preform in the living room to being there when I got married, I'll always old those memories close. You will be missed and I'll be sure to tell my boys about you. Love you.

Grandma Martinez, you were an Earth Angel and now a Guardian Angel in Heaven for all your loved ones. I'm so very blessed I had the chance to know you. You were so adorable, sweet, and funny. I will never forget cooking you Chili and baking you a Banana Cream Pie, you even had seconds! You will be missed. Richard put you on a pedestal. Thank you for giving him unconditional love, a blessing he now gives to our own family. We love you!
