Obituaries

Alice Encarnacao (Saia) Pukelis, resident of Fremont, entered into rest on March 18, 2014 at the age of 92. She is survived by her sisters Isabel Leca of Hayward, Maria Azevedo of Fremont, Lourdes Medina of Newark, and her brothers Gabriel Saia of Mesa, Arizona and Manuel Saia of Castro Valley and countless nephews and nieces.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on February 21, 1922. At the age of two her family returned to Madeira, Portugal, where she was raised. At the age of 18 she returned to Massachusetts. Thereafter she worked several years in a manufacturing factory. In 1963 she married, Charlie Pukelis. She moved to Fremont, California in 1976 with her husband. She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and cooking.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, from 9:30-10:30am and a Chapel Service will begin at 10:30am at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation to the Holy Cross Church of Fremont in the name of Alice Encarnacao Pukelis.
