Anna-Lisa Hughes, beloved daughter and mother passed away on Friday, June 21st. She is survived by her sons Anthony Hughes and Thomas Emerson-Rodriguez; and her Mother Anna Walker.
A lifetime resident of Fremont and long-time member of the Washington Hospital team, she was renowned for possessing a generous and giving spirit. Anna-Lisa was a friend to all and a beacon of kindness in her community. She was known for spreading cheer through her iconic motif pens. She would celebrate holiday seasons, birthdays or just any day by bringing light to friends and strangers alike with her themed writing instruments. Anna-Lisa enjoyed music and was proud of her ability to sing the lyrics to every song by the band, Police. Anna-Lisa loved her family more than anything and enjoyed spending time with them.
I'm sad to hear of your passing my dear Anna-Lisa, especially sad that your boys will no longer have their Mama to guide them through the journey of life. We will continue to miss you so much at work on the Birthing Center at Washington Hospital. Dr. Phan Pediatric hospitalist

I am honored to have watched Anna-Lisa transfer from Food Services where she always greeted everyone with her contagious smile to a Unit Clerk on The Birthing Center where she greeted every patient with warmth and compassion. She always gave 100% and loved her job but having the privilege to pray with her as her dream to become a mother became a reality was truly amazing and one of the greatest joys we shared. She loved being a mother more than anything else and nothing made her happier than to share her sons milestones as they grew up. She will be sorely missed and forever loved! Carmen K Williams

The Birthing Center volunteers could always count on Anna-Lisa's friendly support and encouragement. Over the 20+ years, she and I have become friends and she often shared how proud she was of Tony and TJ and how deeply she loved them. Anna, you know how she loved you too!! We will all miss Anna-Lisa's sweet presence but are grateful for the blessing of having known her. With love and prayers for the family, Jeannie Yee.

Washington Hospital will never be the same without Anna-Lisa! She brought so much joy and kindness into the world, and always made my work days brighter. I was struck by her generosity, and she was so very good at her job - Anna-Lisa did the work of three people, at least! I am so heartbroken that she left us too soon. Love, Dr. Alexandra Cole
