Obituaries

Anthony "Tony" Garcia passed away on July 10th, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tony who lived in Union City/Decoto his entire life was married to Elaine Garcia for 58 years. Tony was a retired Captain of the Union City Fire Department for 28 years retiring on July 8th, 1984 with his buddy Steve Martin.

Tony enjoyed life with always a quick, calculating wit and truly loved his wife, family, friends, the UCFD, cars, cigars, and Lake Tahoe. He is known for his immaculate landscaping at his home, his blue '62 Chevy and the ability to repair or work on anything always with the proper touch.

Tony is preceded in death by his father Michael Garcia, mother Frances Garcia, and brother Manuel Garcia. His close friends will attest for his love of family with a special bonding for his mother and father.

Tony is survived by his wife Elaine Garcia of Union City; nieces: Melinda Browning and Susan Stater of Sacramento; and 8 great nieces and nephews throughout California.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13th, from 5-8pm with a Vigil at 6:30pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14th, 10am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 703 C Street, Union City, CA 94587. Burial will follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward, CA.
