Obituary For Antonio Meza Ortiz

Antonio M. Ortiz, of Newark, Tracy, Madera, and Fresno, passed away on June 23, 2023 at the age of 93. He leaves behind sons and daughters; Raul Garcia, Frank & Eleanor Shelton, Virginia Novachick, Corina Heller, Anthony & Elena Ortiz, Reuben & Alice Ortiz, Duane & Rachel Silveira, Eloise Ortiz. Grandchildren: Jayme Davis, Frankie Shelton, Mike O'Neill, Cheri Garcia, Brandy Navarro, Richard & Ashley Smith, VIkkie Calderon, Joey & Allie Calderon, Derek & Lisa Gaad and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Hortencia, and two sons, Michael and Henry Garcia.

He worked for and retired from Southern Pacific railroad. He loved anything to do with trains, and he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He collected and distributed food to the homeless, he was a man of strong faith and very involved in his church, and attended mission trips to Mexico. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.

He answered to many names: dad, Tony, Pops, Papi, Papa, and big papa G (aka great grandfather). He was full of love and laughter, and that’s how we will all remember him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6 from 9-10am with a Chapel Service starting at 10am at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd. in Fremont. A burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Fremont.

I will miss playing my music for you, our singing together " Los Canciones de Mis Padres" from Linda Ronstadt' s CD. I will miss our talks and your prayers.
