Obituary For Betty Sue Willingham

Born on April 1, 1938 in Tulare, California, Betty Sue Willingham passed away at home on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Fremont, CA.

Preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Willingham in 2013 and her son Mark Allan Willingham in 2014. She is survived by her children, John Willingham (Phyllis) of Modesto, CA, Beverly Esteban of Oakland, CA, and Caren Alcantar (Richard) of Fremont, CA. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was the oldest of 4 children and leaves behind her youngest sister, Peggy Knox of Waterford, CA.

Betty was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School in Fremont, CA. After raising her family, she went to work for the Fremont Unified School District and was there for many years, retiring from her position of Cafeteria Manager at Thornton Jr. High in 2003. After her retirement, she and her husband moved lock stock and barrel to Sun City, AZ to travel and live out their golden years. After her husband passed away, she moved back to Fremont to be closer to her family.

Over the years, Betty loved to crochet, read, play games on the computer, and listen to gospel music. She and her husband traveled the country in their motorhome which was her most favorite thing to do. Betty was beloved by all who knew her. She was strong and gentle at the same time. And her laugh came from deep inside and lit up her whole face. The most important thing about her was her unwavering faith in God. Her love for God was the core of who she was and she knew that when she closed her eyes here, she would open them in Heaven and see her Savior and all her loved ones who had gone before. She would be home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30th, from 9:30-11:30am and a Chapel Service will begin at 11:30am at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Burial will follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, CA.

Remembering a lovely woman and a precious aunt. I'm thankful for the love Aunt Betty showed me and the blessing she was and is to our family. Many fun and wonderful memories at Aunt Betty's house! She took me to Missionettes club meetings, drove us around Christmas caroling, helped coordinate my wedding, came to every baby shower and party, had us over for big family meals and holidays. I love you, Aunt Betty and thank God for your life.

My sister Betty will never leave my heart or memory. Though she has now left us all to go to a much better place, her heavenly home, I for one know I will meet her there and our family will once again be united. We will see our Lord and Saviour and God will wipe all of our tears away. She will never have to suffer anymore!!! Love and miss you sis. Love, Peg :sparkling_heart:

Beverly and family, I'm blessed that I got to know and love Sis Betty and Bro John Willingham! We first became aquainted in Arizona where my husband pastored the church. Bro John was very found of my children and that was the beginning of a wonderful friendship! Unfortunately they both begin to get sick a lot, but we always made sure to visit them every chance we got. It's very difficult to see someone you love suffer or go on to there reward. They hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget them!!! My heart is sad cause I know she wanted to see me again. I will have to wait for heaven! Love you guys very much!!! Love the Munoz family :sob::heart::broken_heart:

I love the beautiful obituary the family posted. It was written so lovingly and so beautifully. That's what I remember about Aunt Betty, too, her wonderful laugh! Also her strength, kindness, hard work, and love for Jesus.
