Obituary For Carmen Martinez

On November 15th, 2022 Carmen Martinez passed away peacefully in her home amongst all of her family. She was 88 years old.

Carmen is preceded by Jesus Martinez (husband), Josefina Vera (mother), Guadalupe Vera (father), Hermilo Vera (brother), Luis Vera (brother), Maria Elena Salinas (sister), Salvador Vera (brother), and Margarita Villagomez (sister). Her family takes comfort to know they are waiting for her with open arms in Heaven.

She is survived by her children, Lucia Sierra (Ramiro), Sergio Martinez (Rosie), Carmen Sanz (Michael), and Cecilia Flores; her grandchildren, Monica, Yesenia, Luis, Meah, Nicole, Gabriel, Michael, and Sergio; her great-grandchildren Lucas and Jayden; as well as a large extended family and numerous friends, all whom she loved and cared for deeply.

Carmen was born on July 15, 1934 in La Cañada de Caracheo, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was the sixth of ten children born to Guadalupe and Josefina Vera. Carmen went to school until the 4th grade and then focused on caring for her younger siblings and tending to her household chores. Carmen was very involved in the Catholic Church and started leading rosaries at the age of 12. She also sang at masses and was a catechist in her parish. She performed in many plays and musicals for her church and community. On January 3, 1962, she married Jesus Martinez and moved to Fremont, California. They raised their four children in Niles where she was involved with the Catholic Church as a choir member, catechist, and lector. Carmen enjoyed traveling, having gone to Europe, Costa Rica and Hawaii several times. But above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. For all of these things, and so much more, she will remain in our heart and memories forever.

Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing which will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd at Fremont Chapel of the Roses from 5-8pm, with a Rosary at 6:30pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at Corpus Christi Church at 11am with the burial to follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery.

Condolences

  • 11/20/2022

Dear Family, Our deepest and most sincere condolences on my aunt's passing. Having spent a lot of time with her at a young age, I can say she was the most talented person in our family. Sewing, singing, acting...she could do it all. I remember her bringing people to tears when she played the Virgin Mary during Easter. She could also bring such calm and happiness with her singing. I remember "Teacher" saying my aunt had the best untrained singing voice she had ever heard. I'm sure you will hear many of the same comments about how special she was. We will all miss her very much. With Love, Ana Bustamante and Family
