Obituary For Carolyn McGorty Seeger
Carolyn McGorty enjoyed a vibrant and full life, beginning in Concord, Massachusetts on May 6, 1947 to parents John Michael McGorty and Betty Ann Doherty. She flourished as an academic and leader in her hometown, Hudson, MA and became a dental assistant after attending Forsyth Dental College in Cambridge, MA.
In 1969 she left New England with her new love and future, first husband, Robert Francis Seeger. They drove across the northern US towards the Canadian Rockies and eventually to San Francisco, where they settled. They were married in Muir Woods in 1970 in an old growth redwood grove and a Son, Christopher Ryan Seeger, soon followed in 1971.
Carolyn Seeger thrived on the west coast in the 1970’s, as she achieved great success in sales (Shaklee) and eventually as an entrepreneur/interior designer, where she found her calling in home improvements (and talking about them). Her favorite project was serving as the interior decorator for the Cliff House (SF) in the late 1970s. Her professional drive allowed the purchase of a Victorian home in Noe Valley, where she provided a nourishing environment for her family as the main bread winner. When the 80s arrived, life became more challenging for her and her bright path took a turn towards sadness. However, over time, Carolyn was able to overcome her burdens and as the new millennium approached, she found her path again.
At this time, she also met her true, life partner, Robert “Bob” Carlson. They rebuilt their lives, succeeding professionally together as entrepreneurs in contracting and maintenance services. They cared for Grandpa Herb and welcomed many extended friends and family members who frequented Raney Court. She embraced Bob’s family as her own and became the matriarch of the ever growing, Carlson family.
Her strongest family connection to those not with us any longer was her father and WWII veteran, John Michael McGorty. She memorialized his service to Country at the Santa Clara war memorial and held him in the highest regard. Her grandmother Arlene “Meme” Doherty, Aunt Pat, Aunt Dot, Uncle Freddy and dozens of other family members (and childhood friends) were always with her in spirit as she stayed on the West Coast committed to her new family and her path chosen.
Carolyn is survived by her Son, Christopher Ryan Seeger; her life partner, Robert Carlson, and his 3 daughters, Monica, Melissa, and Michelle with 12 grandchildren. She also leaves her New England family including brother, Michael John McGorty; sister in law, Anna McGorty, nephew Ryan McGorty and Niece, Meghan McGorty.
Rest in Peace, Carolyn. You are with God now. We will always remember you. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 20, 2020, St. Justin Catholic Church, 2655 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. Inurnment to follow at 12:00 PM, Mission City Memorial Park, 420 N. Winchester Boulevard, Santa Clara.
