Obituary For Charito Nilo Cabantac

Charito was born in Manila, Philippines to Cristobal and Eufemia Nilo on August 8, 1951. She’s the third of 5 children and grew up in Quezon City. She immigrated in Canada in 1974 and lived on her own for 20 years before meeting her husband, Edwin Cabantac, in 1990, marrying him in 1993 and moving to the United States in 1994.

She supported herself through college, attending Philippine College of Commerce, the Philippine Women’s University and Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Canada where she studied business and majored in Human Resource Management.

Charito is an independent spirit and a critical thinker who believed in second chances and practiced self-reliance. “What does not kill you makes you a stronger person” she often said. She loved nature and worked behind the scenes to help and inspire other people. She took care of sick, unwanted animals, she mentored high school students on the importance of education, she did her part to keep the earth green, and she gave back to the community that nurtured her by volunteering. Charito is survived by her beloved husband Edwin Cabantac.

Loving sister to Alex and Edna. Children Eric and Cynthia. Caring auntie to Michael, Lyle and Carlo. Adoring grandmother to Alison and Liam Gerard.

How do you say goodbiye to a dear friend, a friend you've known almost all your life? When I learned of her sickness on Nov 23, 2019 I was really devastated. At that time I had a slight accident and I broke my ankle and I was in crutches supposed to be operated on. She comforted me & I remember her saying" Ok ka lang Tes gagaling ka, ako hindi na sigurado. I felt so ashamed of myself wallowing up in self pity while she on the other hand with a terminal disease was the one comforting me.. and she told me. "Kala ko Tes ako mas matagal mamatay at ako ang magbibigay ng eulogy mo yun pala mauuna pa ako. That is why Iam writing this as my eulogy to her. Chit & I grew up togerhr. We were neighbors in Tindalo Prj 3. Our birthdays fall on the same month (Augst) mine is on the 4th hers on the 8th though she was born a year earlier than I. She would always tell me Tes ako pinanganak 888. August 8 at 8 ocklock hindi ko na lang maalala kung gabi o umaga. Grade 1 kaklase ko na sya. And kalaro sa taguan, giling, giling touch the color, luksong tinik etc. Bata pa lang malakas na loob nya at marunong makiramay.. One time , may bibe kami na namatay. Pare pareho kasi kami noon na.may alaga. Binibili namin ng 5 sentimos sa St Joseph. She arrived with bouganvillae in her hands. As we were startng the burial, maya maya lumabas ang aso namin. Hinabol si Chit. Tumakbo ng mabilis si Chit. Natakot ako at baka makagat. Lo & behold ang bilis tumakbo ng aso pero hindi nya naabutan si Chit Hanggang dun sa kanto ng narra. Grabe para akong nanood ng olympics. Ha ha. Everytime uuwi sya naaalala.nya yon. Napaka.thoughtful din nya as a friend. She never forget birthdays & Christmas . Every year may card ako. Three weeks ago I just received a Christmas card from her. Dec pa hinulog nito lang dumating. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt. An honest, frank, strong willed person who was never afraid to correct you when you lose your way but was always ther

Our sincere condolence and sumpathy to the family of Charito. We used to pass their house in Proj 3 with my Mom, Antonia P Nilo, in going to the Calvelo residence. I was still a kid then but my Sister Mila works with Edna in Malacanang then. Had i known they just live around, I could have seen her; im now here in Hayward. May she rest in peace with the lord. Godbless her soul. -Marjorie Nilo-Blando
