Obituary For Constance Suggs
Constance ?Peggy? (Chamberlin) Suggs was born May 3, 1923 to parents Phillip and Liberta Chamberlin in Salt Lake City, Utah. When she was four, the family moved to Chicago and some of her fondest memories were of growing up in Chicago?s Little Italy and North Shore neighborhoods. After graduating from Taft High School, Chicago, she moved with her family to New Jersey. She attended business school, discovered that she had a talent for shorthand, and eventually took a clerical job with the Army Corp of Engineers during World War II. Near the end of the war, she met a returning Air Corps aviator named Charles Franklin Suggs, whom she married in 1945.
Together, they made a modest start in Oakland, California, and then spent the next 31 years raising four sons and a daughter in the East Bay. For many of those years she worked as a clerk and clerk supervisor for the Alameda County Health Department and Alameda County Social Services where she became known for her ability to get along with difficult people. Peggy was very well read and readily shared her love for literature, the arts, languages, and travel. It was clear that for her children, higher education was the only option.
She is reunited with her husband, Charles. She is survived by her brother, Jack, and children, Charles, Marlene, Richard, Dennis, and Thomas, in addition to eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 11:30am in the Relief Society Room at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Centerville Ward), 38134 Temple Way, Fremont, CA 94536. A Funeral Service will begin on Saturday at 12:30pm at the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Fremont, CA.
