Obituaries

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the strongest woman we have ever known Cora Garcia our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and Godmother. Born in Santa Maria, CA, moved to Alvarado in 1937, then to Decoto in 1968. Preceded in death by her parents Pilar B. and Percillano Garcia, her son John "Buck" Medrano, and her sister Irene Garcia. She always loved working outdoors at Nelson Nursery, Naka Nursery, RMT Landscape, Mission of Adobe, and Regan Nursery. She leaves behind her daughters: Connie Esquibel (Concepcion), Patricia Ornelas, Diane "Vita" Murillo (Rick), Lisa Ruiz; her sons: Bobby Garcia, Tom and Art Medrano (Virgie); her grandchildren: David and Cristina Esquivel, Albert and Fernando Ornelas, Ricky and Elena Cervantes, Alex, Julian, Desiree Murillo, Miles and Jason Arciniaga, Chuck, Bobby, and Elisha Garcia, Juanita Medrano-Heredia and Art Medrano, Rena Pastrana and Isaac Medrano; and 9 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters: Mary Mata, Dolores Chavez, Emilda Rodriguez, Chris Garcia, and Susie Garcia; her brothers: Jimmy, John, and Ray Garcia; and many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and friends. She was a hard working woman, always punctual, never left a job undone, and was always helping a person in need. She liked watching her favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees, and watching her grandchildren play baseball. She was an avid gardener and fan of western movies and anything starring Vicente Fernandez. She was a family woman, loving all of her kids and grandkids equally. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, from 5-8pm with a Vigil at 7pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 11am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 703 C St., Union City, CA 94587. Inurnment at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward, CA.
