Daniel Chi Zhang, 63, passed away peacefully in his home on December 22, 2025.

Born in Beijing on August 23, 1962, Daniel was born into an esteemed, loving family of 5: a diplomat father (Shuyuan), a professor mother (Baoying), and two older sisters (Xinxin and Laure). Though he had fond memories of his upbringing, Daniel had bigger dreams and, in September 1986, he immigrated to the United States of America.

He created a new life for himself: earning a Master’s Degree from San Jose State University, building a career as a Mechanical Engineer, getting married, and starting a family of his own. Despite starting anew, he stayed in weekly contact with his family back home. He was and always will be a family man. Daniel is survived by his daughter (Jennifer), his son (Charles), his grandson (Cameron), his sisters and his mother.

Daniel was unwaveringly strong, selflessly kind, and always full of joy. He led with a smile, was quick to offer help, and always felt gratitude in his heart. He loved to read and found appreciation in the simple things. One thing’s for sure: he lived life absolutely and positively.

Daniel is and will be missed deeply by his family and his community… from the bottom of our hearts. A memorial service will be held in the SF Bay Area at a later date.
