Obituary For Daniel LaVern Marshall

There are few people who can come into your life and leave an impact the way that Dann Marshall did. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather and a faithful friend. Dann’s quick wit, jovial smile and no nonsense demeanor drew people in and made being in his presence a time of lightness and laughter. When Dann spoke, you knew he spoke the truth. When he smiled the light reached his eyes. In those blue pools you saw all the real emotion; the pride he had in his children and grandchildren, the care he felt for his wife, and the admiration he had for the rest of his family and friends. All those emotions are ones that all those near to him, mirrored right back.

Many only saw one small aspect of Dann’s life. For some it was his unwavering work ethic, for others it was his faith in God. Some of you saw the respect he had for our veterans though his work with the Patriot Guard. Some of you met Dann through his beloved Chihuahuas. No matter what you knew of Dann or how you met, there was one thing that was clear, Dann loved life. He looked at the world around him in a way not many can and saw the good, the positive and the light. In doing so he tossed the negative aside, choosing not to dwell. The world is better off after having Dann in it. There are many who will feel the loss now that Dann is gone, but there is not one of us who is not better off from having him in our lives.

Dann is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Ida Marshall. He leaves behind his children; Nick Marshall, Tammie and Justin Mackey, and James and Kirsten Marshall, along with his grandchildren; Zoey Sandlin, Selena Mackey, Trevor Mackey, and Violet Marshall. He is also survived by his brother Richard Marshall. His nephews; Jerry, Lucas, and David McCarn, Danny Moitoso Jr., Anthony, Justin and Jason Labarga. Nieces; Kimberly Mayo, Anita Marshall, Christine Moitoso and Vanessa Labarga.

Memories! There are quite a few and too many to share on this wall, but the one thing that resonates in most of my memories is Dann's grateful heart. Thank you was a huge part of his vocabulary and when he was thankful, he always mentioned the details. He was an Observationalist. He noticed the little things and then appreciated them. That is what I will remember, because that memory makes me smile when I think of him. I am so sorry to Ida, Nicky, Tammie, Justin, Selena, Trevor, James, Kirsten, Violet, Zoey and his sweet pups. My heart breaks for all of you and I send my hugs to each of you. I would tell you that he adored each and everyone of you, but you already know that. You could see it in his eyes. The hurt never goes away. I know that. What will carry you are the memories and the knowledge of what he would be thinking and saying at each of life's turns. That is a good thing to cling to and it will help, a little. He will always be with you.
