Dawn J. Scott, 81, of Fremont, CA, passed away on November 22, 2024 from complications after a two-year battle with endometrial cancer. Dawn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Dawn was born on May 16, 1943, to John and Betty Perona in Oakland, CA. Dawn grew up in Walnut Creek with her two brothers Johnny and Robert. She went on to study education at San Jose State University. After graduating, she began a long career in teaching and worked as a reading specialist in Fremont and Monterey for K- 3rd grade. She obtained her Master’s in Reading Education in 1999 from Cal State Hayward.

In 1975, Dawn met her future husband, Lieutenant Commander Gary H. Scott, a US Navy officer from Quincy, Illinois. They met and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monterey, CA. They had four children and were married for 37 wonderful years.

Dawn was predeceased by her husband Gary in 2013. She is survived by her children Celesia Ventura (Rich), Benjamin Abbott-Scott (Jennifer), Aimee Campos (Miguel), and Jonathan Scott (Janessa); grandchildren Andrew Jester, Isabella Hendricks, Taylor Hendricks, Samantha Jester, Colin Abbott-Scott, Cole Ventura, Lily Campos, Emily Abbott-Scott, Gabby Campos, Gwendolyn Abbott-Scott, Oliver Scott, Evelyn Scott.

Dawn retired from Fremont Unified School District in 2008. She was an active member at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. She volunteered her time tutoring children in the community, the California Retired Teachers Association, Creative Circle craft group, LWML, and Piecemaker’s quilting club. She loved to travel and was an incredibly talented artist, crafter, quilter, gardener, and painter. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and community.
