It is with profound sadness that we announce this passing of Donald (Don) E. Jones on July 4, 2019 at the age of 88. Born in New York to parents John Edwin Jones & Katherine Veronica Jones, Don thrived as an adventurous boy in the town of Tuckahoe, NY where he grew up and graduated from Tuckahoe High school in 1950. Never one to be in any one place too long, Don answered the call to serve his county, enlisted in the Marines, and served proudly. He was incredibly gifted in his technical knowledge, and he had a vast appetite for learning new things; characteristics that served him well in his career working on communications, radar and early computing technologies in Alaska. He also had a successful career as a Manager at Verizon for 10 years before he eventually retired and moved to California. In retirement, he still looked to adventure and began hang-gliding for the first time in his sixties. He was very active in the hang-gliding community in the Bay Area, loved to read, and was a talented cook that experimented often with flavors and recipes. Throughout his life Don was unmistakably kind and found comfort in his deep Catholic faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, John & Katherine, and brother Robert (Bob) Jones. He survived by his brother Jack Jones of New York, Fr. Thomas Jones of Florida, Sister Marilyn Jones of Washington, and an extended family that love and miss him dearly.
