Obituary For Dorothy Machado Vargas
Dorothy Machado Vargas was born to Manuel and Mary Machado on August 20, 1924 in Modesto. Six months later, the three moved to Niles where they lived on a ranch on Walnut Way. While growing up, Dorothy helped out at the ranch. She guided the horses during planting season, drove the tractor in the orchards, and bailed hay for the horses. After graduating from Washington Union High School, she worked at The Booth Cannery in Centerville where she would later meet her husband.
In 1945, she was introduced to a young man named Wilbert Vargas after he returned from World War II. They began their courtship and were married in 1948. They raised their three children on the ranch and then moved to their home in Mission in 1966. Her and Wilbert loved to take their children on many outings to the mountains and lakes. Dorothy also loved to embroider, crochet and work in her flower garden. Above all, she said that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Dorothy passed away surrounded by her loved ones on March 20, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Mary, as well as her husband Wilbert. She is survived by her three children; Glenn Vargas, Darlene Cooley and Sharon Vargas, as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 25, 1-5pm with a Vigil Service at 4pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. A Chapel Service will be on Monday, March 26, 10am at the Mortuary. Burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, Hayward.
