Obituary For Douglas Jacobs

Douglas Jacobs, 54, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Fremont, California. Born on June 4, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan, Doug lived a life marked by curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the joys of both quiet moments and shared adventures.

Doug graduated from Martin Luther King High School in Detroit before continuing his education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with two bachelor's degrees. His academic journey reflected his sharp intellect and passion for learning—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

Doug was known among those who loved him as a kind, brilliant, and gentle soul. He had a unique ability to find wonder in the world around him and to share that joy with others. A true enthusiast at heart, Doug had a special fondness for penguins and pandas—a fascination that brought him delight and often sparked conversations filled with smiles, warmth and humor.

He found great joy in building intricate Lego creations, immersing himself in anime and games, and exploring new places through travel. Whether discovering a new favorite dish or revisiting beloved destinations, Doug embraced each experience with enthusiasm. His love of food was matched only by his love of sharing meals with friends and family.

Doug had adventures and a gift of languages that saw him through adventures around the world: Germany, Japan, California and Taiwan. His talent for breaking computers and software in creative and sadistic ways took him into many different roles in his long career in the tech field. Most recently, he had also started to teach English to young school children in Taiwan. They adored him as much as his family did.

Doug cherished time spent with loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kieve; his mother, Jean; stepfather, Jim; sisters, Kathleen, Wai Yu, Kearsten, and Jennifer; brothers, Peter, Kai, Matt, and John; his aunts Linda, Jane, and Joan; his uncles Mike, Andy; plus many other loving members of family that are not named above. He was preceded in death by his father, David, and uncle John.

Doug’s presence brought light to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

I met you and Doug for the first time playing Mahjong at Sherman's house. One time, we walked to a local restaurant named Korean Fusion BBQ in Jul 2016. Doug conversed with me on old school anime in the 1980s. Another time we ate lunch at KoJa Kitchen in North San Jose in Aug 2016. We shopped at Restaurant Depot afterwards.

I met Doug through Sunday meetup in Taipei with Kieve. They have created such a warm and welcoming place for people to come together and make friends. Doug has always been very gentle and genuine person, he often shared opinions and stories with a humor that made everyone at ease. His sharing on his journey of learning Japanese is a very inspiring one too. I feel very lucky to have Doug and Kieve witnessing mine and Max's marriage registration, an important moment in our life. His sudden passing is hard to take in, we thought we have more time to share more pandas & penguins with him. We will miss him deeply.

I met Doug at one of the language exchange meetup in Taipei, after talking for hours he invited me to his meetup at Sunday morning. It became my favorite place in Taipei, I met my wife and so many good friends in that meetup, Doug and Kieve treated me like family and I was jokingly calling them Dad and Mom for years, they treated everyone with kindness and generosity, and helped a lot of people in different ways. Last month when I visited Taipei, I stayed in their place, we were watching Netflix, Anime and play games, we had such a great time and laughed nonstop watching an episode of Black mirror... before I left Doug gave me a hug, smiling and wish me good luck for my trip and new job... and I'll make you proud. The world was a better place with Doug in it, he will be always in our heart, rest in peace old friend, your friend Max.

In Memory of Our Dear Friend: Doug Forever in Our Hearts It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we remember our dear friend, Doug, whose passing leaves a quiet space in our lives that words can scarcely fill. It was my great honor to meet Doug and Kieve nearly ten years ago. Doug's smile—genuine, frequent, and full of light—will forever linger in our memories. As we mourn his absence, we also give thanks for his life. Doug's legacy is not measured in grand gestures or loud accolades, but in the countless small kindnesses that defined who he was. He was, in every sense, a rare and beautiful soul. We carry his memory forward not in sorrow alone, but with deep gratitude—for the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the light he brought into our lives. Rest gently, dear Doug. Your smile lives on in each of us. With love, Your friend and agent Selena

My first impression of Doug was when I met him in Southern CA, during a visit he made with Kieve to see my family while the family business, Mystore Bakery/Cafe, was still open. I remember how willing he was to try different foods, his openness to culture differences, and the way he carried himself with such politeness and courtesy. When he visited my home, even while simply sitting in the living room, he was always open to conversation, sharing his thoughts freely. Doug approached everything with an open mind. This is how I will always remember him. I am deeply sorry for this loss. Rest in peace, Doug. You'll be missed. Your cousin-in-law, Jerry
