Obituary For Edward Casimir Myslewski

Edward C. Myslewski December 24, 1917 - February 22, 2015

Edward C. Myslewski, longtime resident of Fremont, passed gently away of natural causes on Sunday, February 22, at his board and care residence in San Lorenzo, where he had lived since January 2012. He was 97 years old — or, as he preferred to put it, "Living in my 98th year."

Ed was born on Christmas Eve, 1917, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. On the same day 25 years later, he married Julia Zukowski — a confluence of events that made the Christmas holidays especially merry for Ed, Julie, and their three sons, Rob, Rik, and Ray.

After serving as a Master Sergeant during World War II in Albuquerque, a posting that also saw him playing clarinet and sax in various military dance bands and combos, Ed returned with Julie to Mount Pleasant, but soon moved cross-country to San Francisco, where he spent most of his career moving up the ladder at the National Life and Accident Insurance Company in San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward.

Years after moving to Fremont in 1961, he entered semi-retirement as "Mr. Ed", the title given to him by the children at that city's Moloney School, where he served not only as beloved custodian, but also as storyteller and organizer of the school's annual Polish Day. His love of kids also inspired his Christmas visits to local homes dressed as Santa Claus, and his deep affection for his granddaughters Michelle, daughter of Rob and his first wife Paulette (née Siragusa), and Carey and Roxanne, daughters of Rik and his wife Marilyn Bancel, as well as his great-grandchildren Gabriella and Giovanni, daughter and son of Michelle and her husband Mike Silva.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Julie in 2010 and his oldest son Robert in 2004. He was the last of the eight children of his parents Walter and Mary (née Glowacki), preceeded by Joseph, Walter, Benjamin, and Agnes Myslewski, Leona Newhour, Clara Kiel, and Frances Kostelnock. In addition to his surviving sons Rik and Raymond, their wives Marilyn Bancel and Karen Stock and their families, Ed will be missed by Robert's second wife, Charlotte, her daughter Carla, grandaughter Sarah, grandson Bryan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Ed's wishes, no formal memorial services are planned, although a mass will be held in his honor at his former parish, Fremont's Holy Spirit.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3, 10am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.
