Obituary For Edward Robert Byers

A loving husband and father peacefully passed away in his Fremont home on March 18, 2015 with his family at his side. He was born in his home along with his twin brother Harold in Dearborn, Michigan. on February 9, 1935 to Harold D. and Agnes M. Byers. In 1950 he moved to Wasilla, Alaska with his parents and four siblings, Marion Antoni, Harold Byers, James Byers, and Ruth Page. While in Alaska he worked hard on the Alaskan railroads for 18 months. From 1955 to 1957 Edward served in the U.S. Navy and Korean war. He was stationed in Seattle, Washington aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31).

In 1955 while in the Navy he met his future wife, Elvira Allen in San Francisco. They eloped in 1956 in Nevada. Edward and Elvira had five children: Robert Byers, Shirlee Nogueiro, Bill Byers, Margaret Johnson, and Carol Ederer. He also has two sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law: Marcelino Nogueiro, Troy Ederer, Dip Byers, and Lynn Byers. He was also a loving grandfather to Matthew Byers, Danielle DeMotte, Jason Byers, Erica Garcia, Sara Nogueiro, Isaac Byers, Bruce Byers, Tylor Ederer, Cory Ederer, Joshua Byers, and Maria Nogueiro. Edward also had three beautiful great-granddaughters Emily, Abby, and Bellѐ.

Edward was an outdoors man and a family man. When he wasn’t hard at work he was with his family. He’d loved to take them on camping trips where they’d go fishing and deer hunting. He also loved to drive, which served him well in his career as a Truck Driver. In the late 70s he bought himself his own truck, which he used until he retired at age 65.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 1-2pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30pm at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, CA 94538.

Dear Cousin Vera, If it wasn't for Shirley and posting on FB, we would never have known about Ed's passing. You have our deepest sympathy. Ed was a very kind man and I will always remember his smile and twinkling eyes. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Nancy Plisé Kelly (North Carolina)
