Obituary For Edward Washington Floyd

Edward Floyd went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3rd, after an extended battle with cancer. He was just short of his 95th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Vera Pearl Floyd, who passed in July of 2004. He is survived by his three sons and their families, Ron and Nancy Floyd of West Bloomfield, Ml,

Larry and Jeanne Floyd of Fremont, CA, and Jim and Janet Floyd of Roseville, CA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His last days were spent in the watchful and loving care of the staff at Silver Star Care Home in Rocklin, CA, for which his family is very grateful.

The youngest of seven children, he was born in Alpine, AR and raised in Arkadelphia, AR. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 1943 - 1946, serving in the Pacific Theater; he also served another tour, 1948 - 1951, in Trieste, Italy. He met his future wife, Vera, in Little Rock, AR, and they were married in 1953. They moved to CA shortly afterward and settled in Fremont in 1956. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after thirty-four years of government service and enjoyed a long and eventful retirement.

Edward was an avid bowler, finding a home-away-from-home at Hillman's Cloverleaf Bowl in Fremont. He continued bowling until his health prevented him from doing so. During the 1970's and 1980's he belonged to a horseshoe-pitching league, which traveled throughout the state participating in various tournaments. He enjoyed going to garage sales and haggling over prices of just about anything. He enjoyed, probably more than most, any Western television show or Cowboy move ever made ... and had probably seen every one of them. Edward was unusual in his religious affiliation, in that, he was 92 years young when he became a Follower of Jesus Christ. His family and friends are rejoicing that he made that decision.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1PM, Friday, October 18, 2019 with a Chapel Service at 1:00 PM at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont.

Condolences

My condolences to the Floyd family on the passing of Mr. Floyd. Remember fondly the many times I visited the Floyd home during my teenage and young adult years and was warmly welcomed by Mr. Floyd. His story telling was always enjoyable. Had the opportunity several times to bowl with him and was schooled each time. Glad to read he had found the Lord before his passing. RIP Mr. Floyd. Chris Sullivan
