Obituaries

Emma passed away surrounded by her family on November 2, 2018, in Fremont, CA. She was born in San Francisco, CA. in 1931 to the late Adrian and Dolores Martinez. She was the third child of six children. Emma was preceded in death by brother Arturo Martinez, and sister, Amparo Alvarez and survived by brothers Richard and George Martinez, and sister Ermina Gutierrez. Emma was a lifelong Tri-City resident. She grew up in Niles, raised her children in Union City, and retired in Fremont.

Emma married the love of her life, Jesus V. Coria on November 25, 1951. Together they had 8 children, Maria Dolores Madrigal, Jess Coria Jr., Sylvia Avila, Antonio Coria, Lupe Sierra, Cecilia Salinas, and was preceded in death by sons Alex and Michael Coria.

Emma was employed with the American Cancer Society working with the Spanish speaking community. She worked closely with the elderly as the Director of Posada de Colores senior living facilities in Oakland. She assisted in Legislative policy changes for the senior citizen community for the State of California. Emma was co-owner of El Jarrito and Mission Jarrito Mexican Restaurants in Fremont for 31 years where she made many friends.

Emma enjoyed monthly lunch outings with her brothers and sister. She was a great cook and loved spending time with her ever growing family, laughing, singing, and reminiscing of times past. Emma cheered for the home teams, especially, her Giants. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend.

Emma leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her children, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

All services will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 C Street, Union City. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, 5pm to 8pm, with a Rosary Service at 6:30pm. Burial mass will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10am. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward.
