Obituary For Erick Ivan Flores
Born on January 19th, 1958 in Guatemala, and entered into rest on February 12th, 2017 in Fremont, California at the age of 59. Survived by his father Arturo Flores; brothers: Edgar Flores, Sergio Flores, and Lester Flores; and his best friend Roger Grunwald. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother Bertha Flores, and his friend Dave Burson.
Erick was a loyal, understanding and generous friend to all those who were fortunate enough to know and spend time with him – family, friends and co-workers included. He was a dedicated and proud employee of 32 years at Lockheed Missiles and Space (later Lockheed Martin) and frequently spoke of the various missiles, satellites and Airborne Laser Boeing 747 projects he worked on as a Test Technician and Sr. Systems Engineer. Erick received his Associate of Electronic Engineering Technology from Heald Institute of Technology and also attended San Jose State University for several years working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, while working at Lockheed. He was known to be free with his valued and sage advice for his friends and family, and was always interested in doing what he could to teach and help others, particularly nephew Lester, a virtual son to Erick. He had constant companions in the various dogs that he loved very much, to include German Shepherds Shana, Jordan, and Drago, and his most recent rescued Australian Cattle Dog mix, Sage. Erick spoke frequently and lovingly of his parents, brothers, Nephew and extended family, and of his home country of Guatemala. He also was the “go-to” resource for information about San Francisco, as he worked as a tour guide for a number of years when he lived in and near The City. Erick was a founding member of the Fremont Militia (a “Volunteer Organization” comprised of a group of close friends mostly from Fremont). This close brotherhood would do ANYTHING for each other when asked and without question, and worked on various projects at one another’s homes, enjoyed “garage sits” (drinking beers and cracking jokes), gun shows, car shows, art and wine festivals, and engaged in a number of other fun and sometimes relatively dangerous and mildly “illegal” activities, most of which were associated with annual camping trips at Stumpy Meadows in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Erick’s Militia name was “Gerardo,” given to him by good friend Dan (“Big Dan the Missile Man”) and uttered often by fellow FMers Jim (“Gumbo”), Roger (“Dewrag”), Jeff (“Tribal Elder”), Mark (“Sombrero Boy”) and Dave (“Aqua Dave”). The Fremont Militia’s Motto was “Solving the World’s Problems, One Beer at a Time,” and Erick was certainly a critical component in solving EVERY problem the Militia tackled. Erick will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him. R.I.P., Gerardo… R.I.P.
Private services are being held.
