Obituary For Filomena Avila
Filomena Avila was born on January 15, 1933, in Faial Flamengos, Azores. She passed away on March 4, 2020, in Fremont, CA at the age of 87.
Filomena is survived by her beloved children, Antonio Avila (Laura), Maria Cardoso (Rodrigo), Deolinda Causey (David), and Mary Eisfeld (Eric). Devoted grandmother to Christine (Josh), Paul (Jacki), David (Carin), James (Crystal), Brian (Nicole), Jessica, Miranda, Daniel, and Nathan. Great grandmother to Summer, Tyler, Kaylin, Owen, Drew, Brennan, and Evan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Avila (2007).
Loving wife; happily married for 59 years. Trusting in her husband to migrate from Portugal to America in hopes for a better life for their 4 children in 1970. In return, her husband surrounded their home with a beautiful rose garden, that her only son continued to take care. After his passing, she survived by the endless love of her family. Loving lady; beautiful, kind, patient and generous, welcomed everyone into her home and always had food and something sweet made to share.
Loving mom, grandma, great grandma; the presence of family gave her greatest joy. Watching the kids grow up and spending time with them.
Loved; sunny days, the color pink, flowers, roosters, chickens, squirrels, dogs, cats, ocean waves, the beach and the feel of sand on her feet. She loved to cook Portuguese and American food. Made the best soups in town. Worked for several years as a cook for a Fremont nursing home and Capwell’s Department store cafeteria.
As a hobby, she was always crocheting doilies until her arthritis wouldn’t allow. She then started embroidering kitchen towels, as gifts for friends and family to enjoy.
She was a devoted Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fremont, She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but we find comfort in knowing there is no more pain and that Filomena and Manuel are “Together Again” in God’s grace. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020, 8:30 to 10:30 AM, at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Boulevard, Fremont, with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Boulevard, Fremont. Burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward.
