Obituary For Gerald Vernon Anderson
On November 13, Gerald slipped peacefully into the arms of his maker. Gerald was born on March 17, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1947 he met his future wife Marianne Blachley, and two years later on June 5, 1948 they were married in Des Moines. Gerald and Marianne moved into their home in the Niles district of Fremont in 1955 where they raised their sons Mike and Jerry. Their life together in Fremont was idyllic, and their neighborhood and the community of Niles provided an extended family of friends, and rich experiences over the years. In retirement Gerald was passionate about food and especially enjoyed cooking for family and friends. His mesquite smoked baby back ribs were beyond fantastic, and his hand-crafted BBQ sauces won multiple awards at Alameda County Fairs over the years. Several years ago, in a ceremony of sworn secrecy, he passed the formula for his baby backs to his sons who proudly carry the smoky torch onward.
After 65 years of marriage, Gerald is survived by his wife Marianne, his sons Jerry and Mike, daughter-in-law Liz Anderson, granddaughters Sarah and Jennifer Anderson, great granddaughter Isabell Anderson, his brother Conrad E. Anderson and sisters Betty Frasheski and Beverly Key. His ashes will be scattered on the Pacific Ocean that so impressed him when he first visited California in the mid 1940’s. He was a wonderful husband and father; a man of great integrity and inner strength, and he was true to all who had the great fortune to call him friend. He is deeply missed.
