Obituaries

Irene Benavidez passed away June 14, 2012 after a long battle with diabetes. Born October 20, 1933 to the late Donato and Isabel Pena of Pearsall, Texas. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Victor G. Benavidez, and by her son Victor ?Chato? Benavidez. Irene worked 12 years at a cannery in Hayward called Treasure Island, and 25 years as a bilingual teacher?s assistant for the New Haven Unified School District. She will truly be missed.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20, from 5-8pm with a vigil at 7pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 21, 10am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 703 C St., Union City, CA 94587. Burial will follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery, 1334 West Stuhr Rd., Newman, CA 95360.
