Obituary For James Thomas Ewing

James “Jim” Thomas Ewing, 86, of Fremont CA died Saturday evening July 25, 2026 in his home (where he truly enjoyed living in his later years) peaceably slipping away. There will be a graveside service held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma CA on August 21, 2026 at 11am wherein he will be interred with his father William H Ewing and step mother Mae Francis Fisher.

James was the youngest son of William Henry Ewing and Margaret Teresa Lane. He was born November 26, 1939 in San Francisco, CA. James graduated there from Sacred Heart High School and he was a member of the National Rifle Association (Junior Division) where he received many placement award patches and medals such as Marksman First Class and Pro Marksman. James loved flowers and was a great Orchidist wherein he won many awards for his beautiful orchids. James had the most beautiful roses in his back yard to this day.

James was married twice and twice divorced in his lifetime, but truly had many, many dear friends with whom he enjoyed being around. He adopted a daughter Jennifer Ewing during his second marriage and from her came grandchildren that he truly thought often of, Christina Bell of TX and Alica Martinez of UT. He loved going to Hawaii and went there many times over the years in May and October where he would spend a few weeks to a month with good friends and sometimes family.

James was in the Navy early on in his life from approximately 1960 to 1963 and then worked at Lockheed for a short time until he got into the communication business. He was employed with Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell Corporation, Cable Tech and on into AT&T Corporation before they split. There he worked for many years. He worked his way up to management and was one of the lucky ones who was able to retire at age 60. From that management position, he was able to travel the world; and James loved to travel!

James will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his father William Henry Ewing, his mother Margaret Teresa Lane, his stepmother Mae Francis Fisher, his sister Dolores (Foo) Ewing Duffy, his brother William (Bill) Ewing Jr. and his stepsister Gloria Ann Dodd.

James still has many friends and family members, far and near, still living who will terribly miss him. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Ewing-MO, his granddaughter Christine Bell-TX, his granddaughter Alicia Martinex-UT, his nephew John Duffy-CA, his niece Tamara Ewing-CA, nephew William Ewing-CA, Christopher Marlahan-NV, his step nieces, Pamela Crockett-UT, Tamara Ferrell-CA, Sandra Dodd-CA, Stephanie Appelhans-AR, Angela Walters-AR and Kimberly Glenn-AR.

And last but not least was his wonderful caregiver Aura de Joya, who cared night and day for Jim, in his home since May of 2022.

May you rest in peace dear friend, father, grandpa and Uncle.
