Jean Allen died peacefully in Union City, CA on December 28, 2013. She was 84 years old. Born Mary Jean Downs in South Dakota, Jean moved with her family to San Francisco during WWII. She married Brunson Harris in 1955; had two children, Daniel and Christine; and settled in Newark, CA. After Brunson's death in 1978, she was married to James Allen from 1986 until his death in 2010. Predeceased by her siblings Robert, Margaret, William, and Richard; Jean is survived by her sister Dorothy Downs of Oakland, CA. Survived by her children and their spouses, Daniel and Susan Harris; and Christine and Mark Carrodus; and three grandchildren, Audrey Alvarez, Eileen Harris, and Evatt Carrodus. Jean was a long time parishioner of St. Edward Catholic Church in Newark. The family would like to thank the staff at AlmaVia of Union City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4, 10:30am at St. Edward Catholic Church, 5788 Thornton Ave., Newark, CA 94560. Inurnment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
