Obituaries

Entered into rest on July 19, 2012, after a long illness at the age of 77. Loving wife of 54 years to Roy R. Richmond Sr., who preceded Joann in death on November 1, 2008. Beloved mother to daughter Cindy and husband Alix Decker, sons Steven and wife Judy Richmond of Silverdale, WA, Roy Richmond Jr., and Gary Richmond and girlfriend, Martha Smedberg, all of Newark. Treasured grandmother to April and Bridgett Haney, both of Newark, Courtney and husband James Roberts III, and Matthew Richmond, all of Silverdale, WA, and great-grandmother to James (Bug) Roberts IV, of Silverdale, WA. Dear sister to Margaret Peete of Coming, CA, sister-in-law to Margaret Lunde of San Leandro, George Richmond of Livermore, CA, and Florence (Suzie) and husband Dennis Brown of Oakland. Joann also loved her many cousins, Charlotte Severet of Newark and the Lynch family, former Bay Area residents and many nieces and nephews.

Born January 9, 1935, in Akron, Ohio. Joann was a proud Oakland A's fan, enjoyed bowling and playing card games with her Mowry West friends. Joann also enjoyed traveling the world with Roy in their senior years.

Joann was a brave soul in her battle with diabetes for many years. The family gives thanks to her thoughtful caregivers, Helen Cole and Malia Matoto. Joann loved animals and was especially fond of Cindy's dog, Snuggles, who always brightened her day.

Joann was a longtime Christian and member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, July 24, from 5-8pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, July 25, 1pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 38451 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.
