Obituaries

On the morning of May 15, John Vennemeyer of Newark passed away at the age of 84 of natural causes. He is survived by his two children and their partners Carol (Ed) Vander Meulen and Paul (Robin), grandchildren Drew and John, his sister Betty Maloney and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John is preceded in death by his father August, mother Friede, wife Kathy and brother George.

In 1937 John was born in San Francisco to August and Friede Vennemeyer. John graduated from St. Mary’s College in 1959. He married Kathleen Vennemeyer in 1962, and together they raised two children, Carol and Paul. John had a 30 year career at Clorox retiring in 2000. John and Kathy enjoyed traveling with their family and friends around the country in their motorhome and internationally. John had many fond memories spending time at the family cabin in Boulder Creek. He enjoyed woodworking, building a cradle for his two grandchildren, as well as numerous items throughout his family's homes. He was an avid reader and was never without a book. John always had a good story to share about his adventures and life with his family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Edwards Church in Newark on Friday, May 20 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Mary’s College Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
