Obituary For John Allen Dyke
John Allen Dyke died on May 1st at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA; due to complications following a broken hip. He was 87.
Mr. Dyke was born on April 2, 1928 in French Camp, CA to his parents, Leslie and Nannie Dyke. He graduated from Manteca High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three years where he was a teletype mechanic. In 1952 he was married to LaVerne Burris. The Dykes resided in Richmond, CA and Pacifica, CA before settling in Fremont, CA in 1961. John worked in the electronics industry as a technician in the early days of the Silicon Valley.
Mr. Dyke was an avid painter and a member of the Fremont Art Association since 1969, where he received numerous awards, including Painter of the Year for 1973 and 1974. Photography was also a passion of his.
Mr. Dyke is survived by his sons, Ron DeWalt and Timothy Dyke of Modesto, CA; daughter Karen Davis of Las Vegas, NV; sister Francis Franklin of Stockton, CA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild . He is preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne; his brothers, Earl and Elbert; and his daughter, Cheryl Baxter.
Mr. Dyke will be interred in a private ceremony at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
