John Charles Bettencourt, born on May 4, 1946, passed away on December 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and deep love for his family.

John was the proud father of two children, John Bettencourt and Kathleen Bettencourt, and the beloved grandfather of Isabella Bettencourt, Maverick Bettencourt, Gabrielle DeRosia, Shadow Riley, and Rayne Riley. His family continued to grow through the next generation, blessing him with six great-grandchildren: Jayda, Bayleigh, Ella, Stormi, Raven, and Samuel Riley. Each of them brought him joy, pride, and countless cherished moments. John was married to Otgonjargal Ayush.

He was raised in Hayward, California, and later moved to Newark with his first wife, where he built a life rooted in hard work and community.

A Vietnam Veteran, John served his country honorably from 1966 to 1968, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His service reflected the courage and commitment that would define him throughout his life.

After returning home, John worked as a carpenter for the Newark Unified School District, where he dedicated decades of service before retiring in 2006. He was also an active CSEA Union Representative, advocating for his colleagues with the same loyalty and determination he showed in all aspects of his life.

Outside of work, John was an avid hunter and fisherman who found peace in the outdoors. He was known as a good friend, a good father, and a steady presence to those fortunate enough to know him.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit.
