Obituary For John "Ian" Myles
John Robert Myles, known by many as Ian Myles, age 81 of Newark, California, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025.
He was born on October 11, 1944 in Edinburgh, Scotland to George Ballentine Myles and Charlotte Helen (Hutchon) Myles. He grew up in Corstorphine, a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland, and was a graduate of Heriot-Watt University, where he served on the alumni committee (the Watt Club).
Ian Myles worked in finance in his professional life, specializing in forensic accounting and took pride in solving difficult problems. Throughout his career, he held diverse roles across multiple companies and left a meaningful impact wherever he worked. He maintained strong connections with many of his colleagues over the years and actively participated in several professional accounting groups. In Ian’s personal life, he loved golf and spent many weekends on various courses. He also enjoyed travelling, fishing, hiking, skiing, birdwatching, gardening, and being surrounded by friends and family. Ian was deeply proud of his Scottish heritage. He devoted much of his life to celebrating that heritage as an active member of the Caledonian Club of San Francisco and the St. Andrew’s Society of the East Bay. His commitment to the St. Andrew’s Society spanned more than 50 years, during which he held numerous leadership roles.
Ian is survived by his daughter, Maryanne (Myles) Koller, his son-in-law, Randall Koller, and his two grandchildren, Zachary Koller and Madeline Koller. Ian was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Myles in December 2019, their mother, Helen (Hutchon) Myles in 2002, and their father, George Myles in 1985.
Ian will be laid to rest at Warriston Crematorium in Edinburgh, Scotland alongside his brother, mother, and father.
Ian Myles was a good man. He was helpful, reliable, and dedicated to his family and friends and always enjoyed making people laugh. He was truly like no other. He had a positive outlook on life and always had hope for the future. Ian’s was a life well lived, and he will always be remembered with love.
