Obituary For John "Ken" Keltz

John Kenneth Keltz, World War II veteran and resident of Fremont, passed away at home March 10, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; three daughters, Barbara Packard (Doug), Rethia McDowell, and Mary Keltz (Tom Knappenberger); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mr. Keltz was born on the family farm in Peru, Kansas, August 13, 1924. He graduated high school in Joplin, Missouri in 1942. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Massachusetts in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he completed trade school at Long Beach City College and became a machinist. He later went to work for Pan American World Airways in San Francisco. There, he met and married Barbara Matheson. In 1956 they settled in Irvington, now part of Fremont. Mr. Keltz worked for Pacific States Steel in Union City; FMC Corp. in San Jose and Naval Air Station Alameda. He retired in 1995 after working for more than 25 years at Lockheed in Sunnyvale. Mr. Keltz was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 111 in Fremont. He also served as a reserve officer for the Fremont Police Department and attended the First Christian Church in Centerville.

A Memorial Service is planned for 11am, Saturday, March 29 at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
