Entered into rest on December 8, 2012 in Castro Valley, CA at the age of 66. Devoted husband of 42 years to Melinda Z. Pickens of Newark. Loving father to Jeremy Pickens and his wife Amy of Bloomville, NY, Ben Pickens and his wife Jann of Las Vegas, NV, and Susanna Hansen and her husband Michael of Santaquin, UT. Caring grandfather of Kyra, Andrew, Shannon, and Sean. Dear son-in-law of Janet Rasmussen of Fremont. Cherished brother of Carol Brown, Robert Pickens, David Pickens, Karen Przywara, and Chris Pickens. Predeceased by his father Robert Pickens, his mother Jean Tidd, and his brother Eric Krepela.

Born November 1, 1946 in La Crescenta, CA, John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Bayside Ward). He enjoyed biking, running, Tai Chi, genealogy, and playing the guitar. He loved time spent with his family.

A Memorial Service will be held for John on Saturday, December 22, 4pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bayside Ward, 36400 Haley St., Newark, CA 94560.
