Obituary For John Woodward Jackson
John was born in his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, but his parents moved to Atlanta, Georgia the following year.
Graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia School of Technology in 1948, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee to begin his career with U.S. Pipe. In 1958, John was transferred to California as personnel manager for the Union City facility. He stayed with U.S. Pipe until retiring in 1988 as plant manager.
Community service organizations included Fremont Congregational Church, South Hayward Rotary Club (President, 1964-65), and Fremont Elks (Treasurer, 1963-65).
John was an Army veteran serving in both World War II (1943-46) and the Korean War (1950-52).
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Evelyn, daughter Suzanne, and son-in-law Christopher Niles.
Viewing will be held on Monday, December 9th at 12pm and Funeral Service will begin at 12:30pm at Fremont Congregational Church, 38255 Blacow Rd., Fremont, CA 94536. Reception to follow. Burial at 2:30pm at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward, CA.
