José Luis Fagundes, 94, of Fremont, CA passed away August 21, 2023. He was born March 15, 1929, to Joseph Matheu Fagundes and Maria Do Ceu Silveira in the beautiful village of Fajã Grande located on the island of Flores, Lajes das Flores, Açores (Portugal).

As a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, José is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Christina and Jennifer; and his treasured grandson Ashton Turner.

After graduating from the Catholic seminary in São Miguel, Açores (Portugal), José embarked on his journey to achieve the American dream. Upon locating himself in San Jose, California José met his future wife, Mary, who would stand by his side and love him through 61 years of marriage.

José loved to create and build and his main source of pride outside of his family was his beautiful home in Fremont which he continually worked on right up until this year.

As a man of faith, José loved celebrating God through his deep Catholic beliefs and in the ways he loved his family and friends. He loved life, being outdoors, dark humor, and most of all, his family including but in no way limited to his brother and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

José was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, friends, and a community that loves him dearly. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever ingrained in all he knew.
