Obituaries

Entered into rest on June 3, 2012 in Fremont at the age of 89. Devoted mother of Irene Trammel and her husband Ed of Union City, John E. Cease and his wife Jessie of Brush Prairie, WA, and Margaret Cease of Union City. Beloved grandmother of David, Robbie, Rick, Bob, Roy, Mike, Chuck, Steve, Kassie, Johnny, Tina, Bill, Joe, and Laurel. Survived by numerous great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. Cherished mother-in-law of Linda Cease of Fremont, and Art Hightower of Hayward. Preceded in death by her husband John A. Cease, daughter Ruth Hightower, son Albert Cease, and sister Jean Schlottman.

Born January 11, 1923 in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, Joyce moved from Portland OR to Hayward when she was 11 yrs old, graduated from Hayward High and attended U.C. Berkeley, went on to work for Pacific States Steel in Niles where she met and later married John A Cease, with the help of her father built their home in Union City. She retired from New Haven Unified School District after 14 years of service. Joyce had also worked for Lawrence Livermore Lab and the Navy Depot. She was in a trio that sang and played guitar for the USO. Joyce also played the violin and the piano, loved to sketch, paint, was an avid reader, a ham radio operator and a member of the Hayward Radio Club, Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles, PTA and Boy Scouts of America as a den mother for boy/girl scouts. Joyce was always helping others and was known for her sweet disposition and constant smile. The family would like to extend a special thanks to cousin Jan Ware, Hospice and nurse Connie for their help and support.
