Kathleen was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 31, 1923, the first born child of Lewis and Leila Friedmeyer. She attended North High School in Des Moines where she was involved in many school activities and was the Polar Bear year book editor. She met the love of her life, William Shuey, in her senior year of high school. Bill joined the U.S. Navy and Kay later followed him to Oakland, California where they were married on March 24, 1942. After Bill's service in WWII, they returned to Perry, Iowa where their son, Craig was born in 1948. Bill and Kay returned to California in 1952 to settle there and raise their family. They were a happily married couple for 61 years. Kathleen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She lived in the same house in Fremont, California for 56 years and was extremely proud of her home, neighborhood, and community. Later in her life, she moved to Roseville, California to be close to her son and daughter-in-law.
She was lovingly cared for by her caregivers Iwan and Mary.
Kay and Bill were always involved in the Fremont Police Department activities where Bill worked. She was very proud that Bill was one of the original 25 men to be selected for the newly formed Fremont Police Department in 1958, where he served for 22 years. As a couple, they were active in the community and had many friends. She lived a long and eventful life. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and excelled at needlepoint.
