Obituary For Kathleen Marie Mohn
Kathleen Marie Mohn often known as âKathy, Kat & Momma Katâ passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday February 25th â a week shy of her 71st birthday, after a long battle with Alzheimerâs. Along with her daughter Mandy by her side, she was surrounded by friends and family who loved her. Kat as she preferred once diagnosed with Alzheimerâs because it was short and easy to say, was extraordinarily strong, endearingly stubborn & the sweetest kindest heart all through her life even to the day she left us for heaven. Kat was born in Alameda, CA and remained a native resident of Alameda County throughout her life. She was raised by her Mom & Dad - Joan and Ed Paddock and Grandma and Grandpa â Cecil & Margret Collier. She grew up in Hayward and as an adult moved to Newark and Fremont where she laid down roots with her late husband Bob Mohn. They had their only daughter Mandy Mohn in April of 1977 and according to sources was the light of their lives (not just because I am writing this â hehe). Kat was always a hard worker and never did anything just a little bit. She worked over the years at K-Mart in Newark, Orchard Supply Hardware in Fremont, Washington Hospital in Fremont and Costco Wholesale in Fremont. She was also a self-employed housekeeper and babysitter for years while working these other jobs. Kat loved to sing and dance. You could find her dancing and singing in her immaculately clean house, while doing dishes (in anyoneâs kitchen), while raking leaves or mowing the lawn or next to her Husband Bob as he played the Ukulele at a family party. She was known for being âoutspokenâ and was proud of it. She was a beautiful ball of emotions who wore her heart on her sleeve. She loved decorating for all holidayâs and made even the change in seasons special to Mandy. She taught her to appreciate all things in life and cherish each day. She loved the sun but loved nothing more then a good rain with thunder and lightning. We would always go out and dance in the first rain and all that followed. Kat was a natural giver and always put the ones she cared for in front of herself. She was an incredible caregiver to Bob throughout his long battle with Cancer while managing multiple jobs and raising her daughter still with the most amazing childhood. Bob died in 1986 and although the loss was tremendous and took a piece of her with him, she continued to raise her daughter as a single parent without ever giving less of herself. Kat and Mandy were best friends and moved to San Leandro in 2002 where she spent the last 13 of those years at Washington Care Center. Mandy hardly missed a day there with her mom. They made lots of new friends and friends like family and she was dearly loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her only daughter Mandy Mohn as well as Aunt Carol Carpentier and Sister in Law Pat Gintjee-Pierce who were like sisters to her. Kat will be deeply missed! Celebration of Life Service information to follow and more information can be found on the Fremont Chapel of the Roses website. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimerâs Association â https://alz.org/
