Obituary For Kathleen Shepler Erceg

Kathy was born in Oakland and attended St. Bernard's School and Bishop O'Dowd High School. At age 18 she began working in Administration at Highland Hospital in Oakland. She later moved on to work 30 years at the Alameda County Office of Education in the Human Resources department.

Married for 51 years to her husband John Erceg, Kathy is survived by her husband John, her daughter Shelly and granddaughter Sylvia of San Francisco, her son John and three grandchildren Georgina, Johnny and Gabriela of Barcelona, Spain, and her twin sister Susan Shepler Aguiar of Fremont.

A loving wife and mother, Kathy was a dedicated grandmother who never missed a birthday or occasion to be with her grandkids in San Francisco or Barcelona. She was the glue of the entire family, always hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and organizing all the presents for everyone. She was a great cook.

Kathy loved to travel, and together with her husband John made many trips to Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, London, Rome, Paris, and Dublin. She enjoyed home decorating and shopping, and had an elegant sense of style which she shared with friends and family. She attended all her kids basketball games and was always present and active in their lives. After a courageous and difficult 3 year battle with ovarian cancer, Kathy passed away at her home surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 7, 10am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. She will be laid to rest in a private burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.

Kathy will be missed in Barcelona by all those who got to know her. She was a wonderful lady who clearly loved her family and friends unconditionally. Attached a photo of Lucia and John's wedding. They wished for a low-key event, but of course Kathy was there. And with a big smile all day. RIP
