Obituary For Kim Tung Jew

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kim Tung Jew, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who left us on August 5, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on December 23, 1936, in Hoiping, China to Wah Lock Jew and Sui Kew Loo, Kim's life was a testament to dedication, resilience, and love.

Kim immigrated to the United States at the age of 10 and grew up in Oakland. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and later a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University while working full time. His career spanned over four decades as an engineer in the aerospace industry, most of which was at Lockheed.

Kim was a dedicated father and husband. He was married to his wife, Siu, for over fifty years. Together, they raised his two daughters, Kimberlynn and Tamara, from his first marriage, along with their two children, Victoria and Richard. Kim cherished his role as a grandfather to Clare, Cole, Cory, and Dashiell, delighting in their growth and achievements. He was a conscientious older brother and a beloved uncle, with his jovial grin and goofy sense of humor. Throughout his life, he emphasized the importance of family.

He was community-minded and generous with his time beyond just his family and professional life. Kim had a lifelong passion for Chinese martial arts, starting as a high school student, when he performed the lion dance as part of his martial arts club. As an adult, he studied, and later taught, Tai Chi and Qigong. He incorporated the groundedness and mindfulness of Qigong into his everyday existence and helped foster a close community of students and fellow practitioners. Kim also volunteered for over 20 years with USA Swimming, serving as a stroke and turn official, meet referee, and trainer, and was recognized with the 2006 Pacific Swimming Volunteer of the Year award.

Family and friends often enjoyed the results of his passion for gardening, cooking and baking. He considered cooking an art and loved to experiment, to the benefit of those around him. He and Siu traveled widely after retirement, exploring and enjoying the world together and making friends along the way.

Kim Tung Jew's life was one of service, love, and joy. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Kim was predeceased by his parents, Wah Lock and Sui Kew, and his sister Toy Nit. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Siu, his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Kim Toy, Brenda, Sheldon (Joann), and Joyce, as well as many nieces, nephews and their children.

In honor of Kim's life and spirit, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting the generosity and kindness that Kim embodied throughout his life.
