Lafayette Alfonso Martinez, age 90, passed on July 25, 2022. Lafayette is survived by siblings Mathilda Basurto, Mary Franke, Arturo Martinez; and children Elizabeth Cazares, Lafayette A. Martinez Jr., Ronnie Martinez, Cynthia Martinez, Steven Martinez. Lafayette was predeceased by his siblings Tiva Romero, Wenceslao (Ben) Martinez, Raymond Martinez, Eloy Martinez, Estella Gallegos; and daughters Kathy Costa, and Lori Ann Salazar.

He was born on July 30, 1931 in La Jara, Colorado. Lafayette spent most of his life residing in Union City, CA and spent his final days residing in Newark, CA. Lafayette worked for the Hayward Unified School District where he later retired. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, and relishing quality time with family and friends. Lafayette was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Union City.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd from 4:00-8:00pm with the Rosary beginning at 6:30pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd. Fremont, CA 94536. The final viewing will be held at Fremont Chapel of the Roses on Thursday, August 4th from 8:30-9:30am. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 C St. Union City, CA 94587, and then followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA 94544.
