Obituaries

Louise Viola Van Emon, age 98, was called home by her loving Savior in the early morning of December 31, 2019. She passed peacefully from this life to the next in the embrace of her loving daughters, Cheryl and Jeanette. Louise, nee Brazda, was born June 3, 1921 on the family farm in Timken, Kansas. Her parents were Joseph William Brazda and Marie Brauner Brazda (an Austrian immigrant). She was preceded in death by Eugene R. Van Emon, her husband of over 40 years, as well as two sisters and six brothers.

After growing up in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression, Louise came to California when she was 21 and worked in the laboratories at Standard Oil and then Kaiser shipyard during World War II.

Always careful with her appearance, Louise was an accomplished seamstress, crafter, and quilter. She spent countless hours in service to her church and was known for her gift of hospitality, baking skills, and sense of humor (i.e., the life of the party!). She was very active in her daughters' school activities being room mother and driving for numerous field trips. She was the epitome of the "Greatest Generation," never complaining and was graceful in every situation.

Louise is survived by her daughters, Jeanette and Cheryl, her son-in-law, Gary, five grandchildren, Theresa, Amanda, Alan, David, and Andrew, great-grandson, Ethan and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, 1 PM at First Lutheran Church, 3863 Country Club Drive, Lucerne, CA. Burial to follow at Upper Lake Cemetery, 780 Clover Valley Road, Upper Lake, CA. The celebration of her life will be on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 38451 Fremont Boulevard, Fremont.
