Obituaries

Age 81. Born September 22, 1931 in Arkansas City, Kansas. Lived in McPherson, Kansas with his parents until 1948 when his father was transferred by the Santa Fe Railroad to Artesia, New Mexico. He worked the wheat harvest in Kansas in '49 and later as a Telegrapher with the Santa Fe R.R. until he joined the Air Force in August '51. He spent the next 10 years in the service with two oversea tours and upon his discharge was hired by the Veterans Administration. He retired in October '80 due to a major heart attack and later over a period of time had 4 more attacks and a triple by-pass in November '89.

His wife, Cindy, of 55 years expired in March 2008. He is survived by his daughters: Kathryn Pyer-Matt, Debra Lynn Pyer, and Diana Sue Smith; and his grandchildren: Thomas Jay Smith, Kendall Loyd Smith, Larissa Smith, and Brianna Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Loyd on Sunday, December 30, 2pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.
