Obituaries

Born on February 2nd, 1927 in Bisbee, Arizona, and entered into rest on October 23rd, 2015 in Fremont, California at the age of 88. Preceded in death by his wife Irene Varela on May 11, 2001. Survived by his wife: Dimpna Varela; children: Blanca McDaniel, Ismael Varela, Lucas Varela Jr., Jorge Varela, and Silvia Escobedo; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers: Moses, Joel, and Matias Varela; and sisters: Leticia Mata, Priscilla Figueroa, Judy Ybarra, and Ruth Figueroa. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Lucas worked at Ings Motors in Oakland, CA for 30 years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th, from 5-8pm with a Vigil at 7pm at Hayward Apostolic Church, 28436 Harvey Ave., Hayward, CA 94544. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 29th, 10am at the church. Burial will follow at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
