Obituary For Lucy Miramontes Chapa
We mourn the loss of Lucy Miramontes Chapa, 86, who passed away with her family by her side on March 7, 2025 in Fremont, California.
Lucy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Joe; children: Sandra (Peter) Esparza and Patricia (Les) Belliveau; grandchildren: Jacqueline, Nick, Alex, Becca, and Ely; great-grandchildren: Michael, Dominic, Kainan, Lucy, Jax, Baby Marden, Tony, and Maddie; siblings: Roberto Miramontes, Daniel Miramontes, Eva (Tony) Viera, and Julie (Tony) Castro; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Lucy was born in Zacatecas, Mexico in 1938 to Domingo and Jovita Miramontes, and grew up in a large family with 7 brothers and 9 sisters. Lucy immigrated to the United States in 1952 where she and her family settled in Union City, California. She attended Barnard White School in Union City and then Washington High School in Fremont. To help support her family, Lucy began working at Kitayama Nursery at the age of 15, and then at Sunshine Biscuit at the age of 18. Lucy lived most of her life in Fremont, California where most of her extended family lived.
Lucy was a devoted Christian who cherished her Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. She attended Primera Iglesia Bautista, a church her father founded in Union City, for many years, and then began attending Redemption in San Jose in the latter part of her life. Lucy lived her life guided by Christian values and her faith was unwavering.
Lucy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who showed unconditional love and support for her family. She had a loving and warm heart and was the backbone of her family. Lucy was a constant source of strength and comfort, always there to offer a listening ear free of judgment. Lucy was an amazing storyteller, and it was such a gift to learn about our family history through her stories and memories. One of the things she loved doing most was going on family vacations, especially to various parts of Mexico.
May we find strength and comfort in knowing that our dear Lucy is at peace in His light. We will always carry Lucy’s memory in our hearts.
