Obituary For Mandy Gonzales Galindo

Mandy G. Galindo from Alpine, Texas was born February 27, 1933 and entered into rest on February 8, 2022, at the age of 88 years old. Daughter of Andres and Augustina Gonzalas. Mandy (self-described as a country girl) attended schools in Alpine, Texas; and Tracy, California. A graduate of Alpine High School in 1950, she married Eliceo Galindo from San Angelo, Texas. Mother of Peggy and Michael Galindo, they moved to Los Angeles, California in the early 50’s where she began work in the laundry service industry. In 1958 the family moved to San Jose, California for a brief while and finally settling in the Bay Area. Mandy continued working, this time for Valley Industrial Laundry in Union City, California. Her dream was to be in education where she started attending classes in education at Chabot Community College in Hayward, California around 1968. Mandy received her AA Spanish degree from Chabot College then transferring to Cal State Hayward College where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education. A lifelong goal to enter the teaching profession, Mandy received her California Teaching Credential from San Jose State College then began her teaching career at Alvarado Middle School. In the meantime, while teaching classes during the day, she entered the Cal State Hayward School of Administration Program where she earned her Master’s Degree in High School Administration. From teaching in the classroom, Mandy was promoted to a counselor position at Alvarado Middle School, then moved on to counsel students at James Logan High School in Union City. Through dedication to her life in education, she became a high school administrator vice principal at James Logan High School. She was well known by many of the students and faculty throughout the New Haven Unified School District in Union City.

Mandy is the grandmother of seven grandchildren and enjoyed sports, geography, history and travel throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Union City attending mass each Sunday, there and also Holy Spirit Church and Saint James Church in Fremont, California. She is survived by Peggy and Michael; and her sister, Juanita Silva of Odessa, Texas and many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout California and the Southwest. Many thanks to all the family and friends who called to express their condolences and love for Mandy. May God bless her and may she Rest in Peace. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of the Rosary, 703 C Street, Union City.
