Obituaries

Marie Theres Seebauer-Gasser was born on March 5, 1933, in Lungern, Obwalden, Switzerland, to Josef and Brigitte Gasser-Halter and entered into rest on June 24, 2014, in Fremont, California, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Walter Seebauer, on March 8, 2009, and three siblings: Klara and Karl Frey-Gasser, Hans Gasser and Rosey Burkhardt-Gasser all of Switzerland. Marie Theres immigrated to the US in October of 1963, sponsored by her Uncle Halter in Sacramento, and worked as an Executive Secretary in San Francisco. She fell in love with Walter Seebauer and they were wed on June 28, 1971. She worked from 1974 – 1982 for A.G. McKee Engineering in San Mateo, as an Accounts Payable supervisor. Her life was filled with enjoyment by working in her garden, hiking Mission Peak, Swiss Polka dancing, feeding stray animals in the park, baking, hand crafts and foreign languages. Marie Theres was also an active and faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She is survived by her siblings: Elizabeth and Emil Meier-Gasser, Bernadette and Cassian Benz-Gasser, Josef and Doris Gasser-Knabenhans, Willy Burkhardt-Gasser, and Karl Gasser; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews all of Switzerland; and her many sorrowing friends in California, especially those residing at Emeritus Senior Living Community.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2014, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 40382 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538. Inurnment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, California. Condolences may be mailed to Mr. and Mrs. Cassian Benz-Gasser, Landstrasse 117, Nussbaumen CH 5415, Switzerland. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church – Building Fund at the address above.
