Obituary For Mario G. Blanco, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario G. Blanco, Sr., who departed this life on January 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born August 14, 1938, Mario lived a life full of devotion to his family and faith.

Mario is survived by his beloved wife, Mariaelena, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. He will forever be remembered by his children: Ana Brandau (spouse David), Teresa Simpson (spouse Rob), Mario G. Blanco, Jr., and Leticia Blanco. He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Sanchez (spouse Josh), Victoria Blanco, Josephina Blanco, Nikko Blanco, Alexis Blanco, Kody Brandau, Aiden Blanco, and Kaya Brandau, and a loving great-grandfather to Theodora and Aurelia Sanchez. He is also survived by his sister, Rosalinda Gamez, and brother, Magdaleno Blanco, as well as his extended family of loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Magdaleno and Rosita Blanco, his sisters Marina Hernandez, Altagracia Blanco, Rosalinda Blanco and brother Magdaleno Blanco.

Mario grew up in Pearsall, Texas, and made Newark, California, his home for the past 66 years. While his roots were deeply planted in California, his Texan spirit remained steadfast.

A proud Army veteran, Mario served his country with honor. He was a man admired and respected by all who knew him. As the patriarch of the Blanco family, he was lovingly referred to by many as the “Godfather.” Mario had a gift for making people laugh, and April Fool’s Day was one of his favorite opportunities to share his humor through playful pranks. He was also a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan, cheering on his team with loyalty.

Mario’s memory will be honored during services at Our Lady of the Rosary in Union City, California, on Wednesday, February 19, 10 am, with a reception to follow at the same location in the International Hall.

Mario’s unwavering love, humor, and devotion to his family will be remembered forever. May he rest in eternal peace.
